OpenLogicEFI Emissions Compliance & Legal Use Notice
November 2025 - Rev. 1.2
Emissions Compliance & Conditions of Use
OpenLogicEFI designs, manufactures, and sells aftermarket electronic control systems and related components intended for closed-course competition, off-road, or non-emissions-controlled applications only.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise in writing, no OpenLogicEFI product is certified, approved, or validated for use on any emissions-controlled vehicle or engine under Federal law or any state emissions regulations, including but not limited to California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements.
Federal E.P.A. Regulations (40 CFR § 1068.101), CARB rules, and various state and local laws prohibit the sale, installation, or use of any aftermarket part that alters, modifies, disables, bypasses, or defeats any emission-control device or system on vehicles or engines manufactured in 1966 or newer that are subject to emissions standards.
Such prohibited acts may include—but are not limited to—modifying fuel delivery, ignition timing, boost control, sensor feedback, or engine management behavior in a manner inconsistent with emissions compliance.
OpenLogicEFI expressly prohibits the installation or use of any of its products on emissions-controlled vehicles or engines operated on public streets, highways, or any area subject to emissions compliance testing or regulations.
All OpenLogicEFI products—including but not limited to ECUs, daughterboards, tuning-related hardware, sensors, wiring, software, and calibration tools—are sold strictly for:
Closed-course racing
Off-road ground-vehicle applications
Non-road engines
Research and development in controlled environments
Vehicles and engines exempt from emissions regulations
These products must not be installed or used on any vehicle or engine that is registered for, operated on, or intended for use on public roads.
Off-Road Use Notice
Products sold by OpenLogicEFI may be illegal for use on any vehicle or engine in jurisdictions that require pollution-control systems. These products are not CARB-certified, not “50-state legal,” and not intended for use on public highways, public lands, or any location where emissions regulations apply.
The purchaser assumes full responsibility for verifying whether their specific application is exempt from emissions laws.
No Representation of Legality
OpenLogicEFI makes no representation, warranty, or claim—express or implied—that any product is legal for use on emissions-controlled vehicles or engines.
Installation or use of OpenLogicEFI products in violation of federal, state, or local emissions laws may constitute tampering, which can result in substantial civil penalties, criminal penalties, vehicle impoundment, or revocation of registration.
Customer Responsibility
It is the sole responsibility of the purchaser, installer, and end user to:
Determine the legal status of aftermarket parts in their jurisdiction
Ensure compliance with all applicable emissions laws and regulations
Use OpenLogicEFI products only in permitted environments
Understand the consequences of improper installation or illegal use
By purchasing or installing any OpenLogicEFI product, the customer agrees to assume all risks and liability associated with its use.
International Use Notice
The emissions regulations and legal restrictions referenced in this document apply primarily to the United States, including Federal E.P.A. rules and California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements.
Other countries, provinces, or regions may have different emissions laws, safety standards, or vehicle-use regulations.
Customers outside the United States are responsible for determining the legality of installing or using OpenLogicEFI products within their own jurisdiction.
